MSIT Fashion – 2007 Modaitalia (Preliminary)

Last night I took some fashion photography at the MSIT Fashion – Modaitalia Preliminary Judging. This is the first round of the Modaitalia event which will conclude next month.

65 entries were on display with only 20 of these going through to the final. After which, one lucky student will be chosen to do a summer course at Polimoda a famous italian fashion house in Italy.
It’s basically been one year since I first did a fashion parade photo shoot at MSIT, and check out my fashion category to see the difference in both the parade production… and my photo quality! Astounding in both instances! Last years pics here.
Congratulations to the 20 students that went through! I’ll see you at the final in October.
Check out the Fashion Photography from the night here.

Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE Fashion – Graduation Parade 2006

Last night I attended the Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE (MSIT) Fashion – Graduation Parade at the Coffee Club Pavillion, RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane. I was a silver sponsor for this event and was also one of the media photographers shooting on the night. It was a massive turn-out of about 800 people, including 100 VIP guests. Erin McNaught, Miss Universe Australia and runner-up for the crown this year was the host and was looking stunning as per usual.
The parade’s features included swimwear, evening wear, mens, childrens wear etc. There were a few crowd pleasers such as Penelope Bell’s venetian blind skirt which flips from white to a pattern with a swift movent of a cord. There was also the amazing presentation of childrens wear from Ebony de Souza, with kids in fun bright colours bouncing down the catwalk. The whole event seem to be very well organised and well presented, a tribute to the MSIT’s direction and passion for Fashion in QLD.
Just like the modaitalia event, I was the only one not shooting with a flash and this time I was the only one not using a zoom lens, I was using my “nifty fifty” 50mm 1.8 prime lens. There were a few shots I took which were a little soft, but on a whole I got some great natural shots without resorting to using a flash and having harsh shadows in the background. Using the 50mm prime also gave me some extra sharpness and natural angles.

Penny Bell – Moda Italia Entry

This morning I did a fashion shoot for Moreton Institute of TAFE student Penny Bell and her Moda Italia entry. Penny is a finalist for this competition which is an Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry QLD event. The final for this event is on October 11, 2006. I will be shooting at this event, expect to see some photos from that parade around that time.

2006 Moda Italia – Moreton Institute of TAFE Fashion Design

I was invited yesterday to take some photos of the premilinary judging at the 2006 Moda Italia, Moreton Institute of TAFE fashion parade. My friend Carly and from what I can tell her friends there all made it to top 20 and the final judging in October to win a scholarship at a design school in Italy.

This was a new experience for me, shooting with a Digital SLR and external flash on moving subjects at night. It’s much different from portrait and wedding photography where you can control the subject’s movement. After reviewing the photos, most of them looked slightly blurred, or seemed out of focus. I was shooting at ISO400 at around f2-4. I would have thought that with the flash that I could shoot basically as fast as I wanted, but that wasn’t the case.
Most shots are under a 40/sec, which means that any movement whatesoever is going to blur. You will see that some of the “better” shots which don’t show that blur, the model held her pose longer than usual. Whilst others were speedy gonzalas’. Anyways, I possibly should have gone to ISO800 but i really dislike that noise it produces at that sensitivies. BUT, it is better than blurred photos.
Anyways, check them out for yourself here
