Reported on afl.com.au AFL club coach of the Fremantle Dockers, Chris Connelly has made it known publicly that Jason Akermanis is of some interest to the club. Jason Akermanis of the Brisbane Lions has been the talk of the AFL for the last couple of weeks after being dropped from the senior side against Hawthorn last week. It appears that his non-disciplined actions on the field the week before has made both team members and coaches alike disappointed. In an apparent act of punishment, Aker was disciplined by being relegated to the reserves regardless of comments made by captain Michael Voss’ at a media conference.

Voss’ announced publicly the reason why Aker was not named in the Senior side to run on against the Hawks at Carrara. He did however say that this decision was made based upon 50/50 breakup of lack of performance and lack of on-field discipline. Leigh Matthews, coach the Lions made a subsequent announcement that it was more 20/80. So it is pretty obvious there that Aker was being punished for on-field misbehaviour.

In my opinion, the comments made by Connelly today, is a very smart move and i’m sure the talk of Fremantle being interested first, will be much welcome attention for Akermanis who’s contract expires at the end of the year. It is smart as Aker will automatically look at the prospects there first and will much prefer to be at a club where the coach is welcoming him in regardless of his previous antics on and off the field.

EDIT: The Australian reported that Melbourne chairman Paul Gardner put up his hand for Melbourne on Monday 15 for the services of Aker if he’s available at the end of the year. However Coach Neil Daniher would not make any comments at all about taking on akermanis besides they will make a decision at the end of the year. I think Aker will be hard fought for, and i suppose Aker will then have to decide which coach will be most welcoming of his style and whom will pay the most.
