Along with the release of the Canon 50D, Nikon announced the successor to the D80 the Nikon D90.

I’ve been a fan of Nikons since the release of the D3. Basically until then Canon lead the way with Digital SLR technology.

The D90 introduces a new feature which has rocked the digital slr world and the forums at DPreview the world’s number one digital camera website. Nikon introduced at Photokina 2008 the D90 with live video recording. The first of it’s kind on a Digital SLR.

I never thought it would be any good, i mean, you can’t autofocus, zoom and the ergonomics are wrong. HOWEVER, after some time to digest it, its truly ground breaking.

The video above shows some footage recorded on the camera using fisheye and big aperture lenses. Amazing.

You cannot do anything like this on a digital video camera under $1000. For me who does video work and even now i’m trying to do some shallow depth of field shots in post-production which is very time consuming can be done easily with a D90. You can even get this effect with the cheapest nikon 50mm lens.

So obviously you can’t use the D90 for event work but for creative shots, its revolutionary. Live view has been around for digital slr’s for a while, why haven’t they thought to just record the feed in the past?

Canon has missed the mark this round. I’m sure they could do a firmware update down the track.

My friends Paul & Helen have just finished making a website to help people plan their wedding. Everything from bucks parties to wedding photography. It’s the perfect site for anyone in Australia who is getting married or planning a wedding.

On saturday June 30, Daniel and I photographed and filmed the wedding of Jacinta & Josh. It was excellent weather that day, the only hassle was the high winds around Brisbane. This was my first wedding photography shoot since I took the reigns of mum’s business. I have some amazing shots and can’t wait to get stuck into the post production and show you here.

Thursday and Friday I was sick and was unable to work, woke up with a fever and with sore… everything! I didn’t train on thursday night and couldn’t play football on friday night either… however we did have a great win, “whools” and I ran the bench- I was dressed in a pinstripe suit as I had been at a funeral that day.

Best wishes to the Milliner family over the loss of their mother after a losing a battle against Huntington’s Disease. The funeral was held at Allambe Gardens on the Gold Coast – A beautiful day for a beautiful funeral.

On saturday July 7, yes 07-07-07 I had the pleasure of filming the Romanian wedding of Adina & Joseph. The photo above was taken on my n95 mobile on a beach in Surfer’s Paradise. The actual wedding was at the Penticostal Romanian Church and the Reception was at Runcorn Tavern. We had travelled down to the Gold Coast to get photos on the beach and at the viewing platform of Q1 the worlds tallest residential building.

Saturday night was treated to a full blown wine tasting event organised by my friends Daniel, Derek & Matt. They went all out and hired a purpose built seminar suite at the Point. Dan and Derek gave us some excellent wine talks and tips about distinguishing the difference between wines. I was still in the process of recovering from being ill, but felt obliged to enjoy the wine and various liquers made available. CHECK OUT THE PHOTOGRAPHY PHOTOS HERE

Continuing on the fairly packed weekend of activity, I attended the first ever birthday of young Oliver, the son of Kate and Andrew. I haven’t seen Kate (whom I went to high school with) since my last birthday party. Kate was ready to pop!

Oliver was a bit of a poser and so I took advantage of his skills in modelling and captured some great images.

I bought Oliver a frog toy which wriggled around under sunlight. On his card I wrote “Dear Oliver, I hope you didn’t waste the first year of your life like I did, love Christian”… Kate laughed… (hopefully not a “you are so blacklisted from future events kind of laugh”
