Ads of the world… similar to Brands of the world web site

Eukanuba Cat

Just found this site , its similar to brandsoftheworld.com but it’s a massive database of ads, obviously though you can’t download the eps version of the ad, but its great to get some ideas for some advertising concepts and design layouts.

I’m currently working on some advertising concepts for the new World For Pets online store that i’m helping launch here in Australia and whilst i’ve already come up with a concept, this site has just helped me gauge the uniqueness etc.

I will be posting some of my draft imagery soon. At which time, i’d love some feedback on them!

I’ve met 66.66% of the The Grates

Patience - The Grates

Last night I met Patience (above) and Jhon (below) from the rad 3 piece Brisbane band The Grates. In the picture above I was feeding the bunny on Patience’s top M&M’s. Patience was really cool, she thought my hair looked soft and fluffy!

Jhon and I had a conversation about those crappy video game “consoles” that are sold on the morning tv shows. Like that one that has 150 odd games for only $149… less than a dollar a game! “Don’t spend 80, 90 or $100 PER GAME, buy this amazing console, your kids will love it!” Those poor kids… considering you can get a Nintendo Gamecube for less than that, it’s a joke!

Jhon - The Grates

Anyways, The Grates, listen to their music. They are really cool people, well… 66.6% percent of them are cool but I take their word that the other 33.3% is cool also. You do the math, or maybe just listen to their music.

Sweat Diva – Hot new active wear in Brisbane

Sweat Diva Brisbane

I did a photoshoot this morning for a new high quality active wear label called Sweat Diva. Founded by Erin Cash, this label features some of the hottest designs and looks to fit into a growing market of consumers who are getting into exercise. Check out my photo gallery here and let me know what you think.

I did this photoshoot mostly with my fixed 50mm lens, using manual focus- its much quicker than the lens’ auto focus plus at wider apertures it becomes easier to pick the focal point. I’ve done a couple of black and white shots, mixed them in lightroom to give them a bit of punch, but i think my favourite pics were in front of the silver roller shutter.

New Sony HVR-V1U 24p/30p/60p High definition camcorder

Sony HVR-V1U

Today, well yesterday, Sony released a new high definition camcorder to their arsenal of HDV camcorders called the HVR-V1U. It features true progressive sensors, which means it can film in 24p/30p/60p. Chances are, the australian version will be 25p and 50p. Along with this launch is the new optional hard disk recording unit that sits on the hot shoe of the camera, by the looks of the pic above, kinda looks out of place, but hey, it’s not a beauty contest… or is it?

The very newest LCD’s are starting to come out supporting “true HD” or a full 1080 resolution. It won’t be too long before we see the current “HD ready” televisions drop in price dramtically.

2006 Moda Italia – Moreton Institute of TAFE Fashion Design

Carly Faragher

I was invited yesterday to take some photos of the premilinary judging at the 2006 Moda Italia, Moreton Institute of TAFE fashion parade. My friend Carly and from what I can tell her friends there all made it to top 20 and the final judging in October to win a scholarship at a design school in Italy.

This was a new experience for me, shooting with a Digital SLR and external flash on moving subjects at night. It’s much different from portrait and wedding photography where you can control the subject’s movement. After reviewing the photos, most of them looked slightly blurred, or seemed out of focus. I was shooting at ISO400 at around f2-4. I would have thought that with the flash that I could shoot basically as fast as I wanted, but that wasn’t the case.

Most shots are under a 40/sec, which means that any movement whatesoever is going to blur. You will see that some of the “better” shots which don’t show that blur, the model held her pose longer than usual. Whilst others were speedy gonzalas’. Anyways, I possibly should have gone to ISO800 but i really dislike that noise it produces at that sensitivies. BUT, it is better than blurred photos.

Anyways, check them out for yourself here

Crikey, Streuth, Bloody & Blimey

I actually heard this on sunday night safran on triplej but I heard that these aussie slang words orginated from old christian swear words. I could have the details slightly off but the concept should be correct.

Crikey is a contraction of “Christ Kill Me”

Streuth is a contraction of “God’s Truth”

Bloody is a contraction of “by Our lady” referring the Mary thus “Bloody Mary” cocktail

Blimey is a contraction of “Lord Blind Me”, originally part of the phrase “cor blimey” which was an abbreviation of “may god blind me if it is not so”[1].

Now how could these swear words become so Australian? Cass told me that it is because convicts from England would commonly use these words, which then migrated along with them as they were shipped to Australia for stealing bread and… Saffron.
