Mother Maria – Fashion Photography
Jun 26th

CHECK OUT THE FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY PHOTOS HERE
I did a fashion photography shoot up at Buderim on the Sunshine Coast a couple of weeks ago for my new friend Katie Gannon from Mother Maria. I also did some photos for Katie’s sister Krista from Australian Flavour.
The shot above was a spontaneous shot where the model Phoebe was standing there keeping warm from the cool breeze through the trees. The lighting and composition was already set and I had to just take the shot. If you have a look at the gallery you will see that there is another version where you can see the sun peek through the trees. I like them both equally.
The location was at a park at Buderim, with some great big trees all lined up and it gave some really interesting (and hard to work with) lighting. I used an external flash bounced off a reflector board most of the day to give just enough fill whilst still allowing natural lighting.

I use my Canon 5D and a 85mm 1.8 Lens most of the day and I was able to get some really sharp photos, particularly when the sun went down and we were getting some shots outside of the park and in the playground and in front of the trees. The shot above is an example of that.

The photo above is with both models at the end, and Katie next to me on the left and her sister Krista the right in the photo.
It was great working with these girls, they made it a fun day to shoot and it’s great getting to know Katie and Krista.

Podcast Interview with Katie Gannon of Mother Maria
Jun 25th
“The quirky and bright label Mother Maria presented it’s first range in Spring 2006. The range was born from designer Katie Gannon’s love for vintage fabrics, blending retro prints with bold new colours and timeless sillouettes of era’s gone by. The name was born from Katie’s late polish grandmother, Maria Duchnicz, who was always an apple in her eye.” -MotherMaria.com.au
Last weekend I interviewed Katie Gannon of Mother Maria on the Sunshine Coast. I was up there to do a photo shoot with Katie, after being in contact with her via email after the Ethical Fashion Showcase that I documented earlier this year.
As this was only my second ever podcast interview, I’m still learning the process and working with my interviewing skills. There was a lot of traffic noise during this interview and I “ummed and ahh” too much during my questioning. Nevertheless I know I’m learning and I enjoy doing my interviewing in one take. My introduction had to be redone due to overly excessive noise and wind. That’s me sitting in my l lounge room if you download the video.
I hope you enjoy this interview, make sure you check out mothermaria.com.au and add Mother Maria as you friend on myspace here
Here are the files for you download or play – You may either stream or download the AUDIO version or you may download the VIDEO version. Let me know what you think!

Pinata Party – Ground Level, Substation No4
Jun 24th

REGISTER HERE TO COMMENT ON THE PARTY
Saturday night was my Pinata Birthday Party event, held at Ground Level, Substation No4, Petrie Terrace in Brisbane.
It was an unusual event to have in the first place, let alone a 27th birthday! However, I love throwing parties, and I haven’t had much opportunity to have many this year.
After a few phone calls, looking for places which would allow pinatas, I found Substation No4. Thanks to Bec, my work colleague, I booked the venue for June 23rd.
To pay for the venue, I knew I’d have to have a cover charge of $20. This covered the venue, frozen cocktail machine, spirits for the machine, wine, food, equipment, soft drink and most importantly the pinatas, toys, lollies and fillings!
There were 7 Pinatas in total, including the traditional bull, butterflies, a star, and a fish. Filled with over hundreds if not thousands of lollies which burst into the crowds when cracked open.
There were approximately 140 people in attendance for the evening, a record number for any private party i’ve held so it was great to see that turn-out.
Anna Weatherup and Dale Carmody both played acoustic sets for the guests, whilst Cameron & Patrick gave the crowd a blast from the past rendition of “Ice Ice Baby”.
Mum was at the event helping out (in a big way), taking care of the food, greeting guests, decorating the venue and being the official photographer for the night. Thank you mum!
Amanda and my brother Ellery also played their part, by helping with decorations and checking guests as they arrived off the list.
The frozen cocktail machine consisted of Magarita on one side and Strawberry Daiquiri on the other. This machine was supplied by CitySlush
I had chairs, tables and the bain-marie supplied by All-Well Hire.
Finger food was supplied by Harry’s on Petrie Tce and Pizza was supplied by Pizza Hut.
Wristbands were supplied by AAC Wristbands
Pinata’s were supplied by Spotlight
Lollies and confectionary were supplied by Tom’s Confectionary Warehouse
UPDATED: Griffith University Vs Logan Cobras
Jun 14th
Tomorrow the match of the AFLQ Division 3 round happens at Griffith University, Nathan Campus.
Logan are sitting at the top of the ladder and Griffith are sitting in 3rd place.
Ellery (my brother) and myself are both in the starting side to take on the top team.
Game starts at 2:00pm – Griffith University, kessels road, Nathan.
Come see a great win by my team!
UPDATE:
Griffith University: 6.12-48
Logan City: 5.10-40
We had a great win over the top team on Saturday. Playing at home, we had a great crowd to cheer us on. Ellery my brother had an awesome game taking some spectacular marks in the forward line. I played in 4 different positions in all 3 lines. After having problems with shin splints all year, I didn’t have too much problem with mobility on Saturday.
We are playing at home under lights on friday night at 7:00pm against Yeronga, it will be another tough tussle as they have just come off beating The Magpies. Come check out some great local footy at Griffith University, Nathan Campus under state of the art lighting. The ground is located on Kessels road at Nathan just near QEII stadium.
Finally the biggest pinata party ever held in Brisbane is happening!
Jun 1st
Ok it’s that time of year again, and my age increases 1 year but my spirit decreases 10.
As i’ve hired a venue (Ground Level, Substation No4 – Petrie Tce), so that I can have Pinatas and for us to BYO alcohol, there is a cover charge of $20 to cover that which also includes, food, magaritas, dacquiris, ice, equipment hire etc etc…
I need to get a response for numbers before the 15th of june and payment before the 20th of june.
You are more than welcome to bring any friends to the party , however only those registered and paid for will be on the list at the door.
This is strictly a closed door event as we don’t want outsiders making their way in to ruin our fun. So get yourself on the list, just reply to this email to say if you can come and who you will be bringing- i need names so that i can compile the list.
We have a limit of 150 guests so you will have to reply as soon as you can to get on the list!
As mentioned, you can bring your own alcohol, so it’s definately a rare occasion to come out and let loose and break away from your run-of-the-mill night out in Brisbane.
Enjoy live entertainment such as music, nikko tattooing, hoola hooping, staring contests, thumb wrestles, chinese burn championship, mercy, tea towel whipping, pirate dress-ups and much much more.
Of course, the main attraction is the Pinatas, already being hailed by many, as the biggest pinata party ever held in brisbane! There will be a showcase of different pinata designs, filled will lots of surprises!
So for $20 you can get drunk on our cocktails, or your favourite beverages with the funnest people this side of gympie
Email me now and say “Yes, Christian, I want to have fun with you and the showcase of Pinatas!”
Go!
(squiggle)
Christian.
Feel free to call me on my mobile if you need to find out more information.
P.S. Remember to ring up your friends to see if they can make it, then email me with your name and the names of your friends that want to come have fun.
