After 25 years at Essendon and having coached 850 premiership games, Kevin Sheedy and the Bombers are currently sitting at the bottom of the ladder. Unfortunately, for the club, the fish does rot from the head first, as former essendon captain Tim Watson has publicly made known. Basically this implies that the problems with the on-field performance lie with the coach and regardless of how long he has been there, he has to go.

I second this motion and beleive that the Bombers can accelerate their development with a new coach. Sheedy has always delivered and stood the test of time, but it simply can’t continue for ever. Sheedy on the AFL football show last night, talked about how he’s getting kids in and getting them geared up as the new generation. I do beleive this must be done with senior leadership, the appointment of David Hille isn’t what i would call “senior” leadership. Considering there are more senior players like fletcher, johnson and Lucas whom could be considered real senior leadership.

Last week the bombers got pumped by Carlton in what could only be described “crap-storm” developed by the bottom two teams. Brendan Fevola kicked 7 goals on “rookie” Joel Reynolds that day and Sheedy has coped lots of criticism of why he put him on instead of someone like mcphee, solomon or bolton. I do understand that its good to give the younger players a go, but if a player has kicked 3 goals on a rookie by the 2nd quarter, its time to put someone else on him. Instead Sheed’s left him on Fev which lead to a subsequent 4 more goals. Regardless of umpiring decisions and bad luck in the 2nd half, Sheedy really needed to repsond earlier.

Teams that have hit the bottom of the ladder in the AFL and when quality teams like Essendon are there for only the 2nd time under sheedy’s regime. I beleive that drastic changes need to be made and in this case, Sheedy needs to let go. Walking stick and scarf, he’s gotta let someone else in.

  1. [...] I made a post in may last year about Sheedy needing to be sacked has finallly happened. In this fast paced era of AFL, all staff on and off the field must be at their peak performance. Essendon went into the 2007 year with high hopes, and they currently sit in 10th spot with a chance to make the finals. However with the future of the club and a coaching contract ending, Essendon has decided not to renew it. [...]
